Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) was introduced by the ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) along with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on 3 Oct 2012. The Scheme currently covers more than 60 products that needs to be tested as per Indian Standards (IS) in order to be sold in India.
The number of products is expected to reach the mark of 150 within the next 3 to 6 years. The Compulsory Registration Scheme states that all listed electronic & IT products, whether being imported or manufactured should be tested as per the relevant standards in a BIS certified laboratories as per mentioned conditioned and shall get the approval by the BIS body.
Conformity to the standard is ensured through the testing of products in the equipped laboratories followed by Submission to BIS Authority. The Product Registration Schemes of BIS aims to provide Consumer assurance of quality, safety, and reliability of products so that buyers have peace of mind.
BIS (CRS) Scheme and its Importance
